This is Fluffy. Fluffy is a new type of magazine for kids that is so unique you just might rediscover the giggling kid inside yourself. We start out with adorable pictures of cute animals in fantastic situations, add in gentle poems and package it all as an ad-free, super high quality magazine with thick pages suitable for framing or crafts. Fluffy was created by a husband and wife team with the help of state of the art artificial intelligence and we are launching our Kickstarter soon for the first issue. In the meantime, you can learn more about our history, read about the ethics of AI, or sign up for our email list to get news and updates about our project launch.
"Fluffy is much more than your typical art or story book: we think that it has secret powers..."
Secret #1 - Animal Education
We wanted the dogs and cats and barnyard animals in Fluffy to be familiar for any young animal lover, but also introduce exotic animals from around the world. We have quokkas and bandicoots, meerkats and pikas, capybaras and wombats. We have Tasmanian devils and snow leopards, bilbies and numbats, and of course; baby lions, tigers, and bears. The pages do not identify the animals (the website will have a parent/teacher key for each issue) so the very act of researching to find out what the animal is is both exciting and educational.
Secret #2 - Poetry
Fluffy was originally made for my Mom, who used the beauty of poetry in her classrooms. Every other page in Fluffy has a gentle poem that is not just nice to listen to, but a genuine educational tool. Learning how to read poems aloud is a powerful way to boost creativity and confidence. Since each poem is just a few lines, it is lower pressure than reading an entire chapter or book. As Ally Bush writes for readingpartners.org, “Poetry can help children tap into their creativity by encouraging them to think about the new and unexpected relationships between words. In addition, having young readers try to write poetry can improve their literacy skills.” (link)
Secret #3 - Cute animals boost focus
We wanted the dogs and cats and barnyard animals in Fluffy to be familiar for any young animal lover, but also introduce exotic animals from around the world. We have quokkas and bandicoots, meerkats and pikas, capybaras and wombats. We have Tasmanian devils and snow leopards, bilbies and numbats, and of course; baby lions, tigers, and bears. The pages do not identify the animals (the website will have a parent/teacher key for each issue) so the very act of researching to find out what the animal is is both exciting and educational.
Secret Power #4 - Story Cues
A story cue is an invitation to use imagination and tell a story based on what is seen in a picture. Every page of Fluffy is a story cue waiting to happen. Just ask your little one to tell you the story of the picture of a silly cat dressed as a wizard in a medieval castle and watch the creativity bloom. With over 100 8.5x11 highly detailed images in every issue, there are endless adventures waiting to be told.
Secret #5 - Affordable Wall Art
Wall art, even the “cheap” stuff, is kind of expensive, but a single issue of this magazine, sliced at the binding, will yield 50 8.5x11 (most frame perfectly in an 8x10 frame) sheets of unique characters that will brighten the walls of any room. Visit your local thrift store or discount shop for picture frames, and decorate an entire room with just one issue. Surround any loved one with ´Fluffies´ for wall art that will bring a smile every time they see it. For extra credit, construction paper and macaroni makes for a delightful frame or try a door sized collage for maximum cute per square foot.
